Blink-182 Split With Record Label

After reuniting to make last year's Neighborhoods, Blink-182 have split from the band's record label Interscope, MTV reports. "Freedom!! Blink as of today, is now an independent Artist!!!!!"singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge tweeted yesterday with a photo of Mel Gibson in Braveheart. Blink-182 had been signed to Universal Music Group, Interscope's parent company, in some form since 1997.

"Yes indeed, we are no longer with Interscope. It's been a long, amazing journey with them, starting with Cargo records, then MCA, then Geffen and finally Interscope, but the time has come to move on," singer-bassist Mark Hoppus told MTV. "The reasons for us not working together are many and varied, but mostly we wish them luck in everything in their future, and thank those there who've worked so hard on Blink-182 throughout the years."

Hoppus said the band's plans include continuing the writing process "through the end of the year" and recording after their February tour of Australia.

"As far as labels, to be honest, we've been holding our breath waiting for final word from the attorneys that our contract with Interscope had ended. Now the future's a wide-open door," said Hoppus. "We're lucky to be in a position where, after 20 years in our band, we can be independent and open to all options. It's a very exciting time here. I feel like our band is in the best place it's been in a long time. I mean, just look at my hair!"

'Breaking Bad' Final Season Split in Two

The final season of Breaking Bad will air in two eight-episode chunks, Entertainment Weekly reports. "We’re splitting it," says series star Bryan Cranston, who was interviewed from the set of the show's fifth season premiere in New Mexico. "We're going to shoot the first eight, then take a four-month production break, then the rest will air next year."

AMC has not formally announced this plan, though a representative for Sony Pictures TV has confirmed that this is "one scenario" being considered by the network. According to actors on the set, Breaking Bad is scheduled to return to the air in July. If the final season is indeed split into two sections, the second half may be held until the following summer.

Other major cable dramas have had their final seasons extended and split into two halves. The sixth season of The Sopranos began with a 12-episode run in the spring of 2006 and wrapped up with nine more episodes the following year. There was a three-month break in the middle of Sex and the City's final season, splitting the run between 2003 and 2004.

Katy Perry Drops Out of People's Choice Awards After Split with Russell Brand

Katy Perry has dropped out of plans to attend the People's Choice Awards, which would have been her first public appearance since splitting with her husband, comedian Russell Brand. Perry has been nominated for seven awards at this year's show, which will air on CBS tomorrow night.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS," Perry announced on her Twitter account yesterday. Perry has kept a low profile since separating from Brand. Aside from this message, Perry's only word to her fans in recent days has been a tweet urging them not to trust reporting from gossip sites and magazines. "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family," she wrote.

Russell Brand filed papers for divorce in Los Angeles just before New Year's Eve, citing irreconcilable differences. Brand and Perry had been married for 14 months.
