'Dark Knight' Shooting Victim Rips Dave Mustaine for Obama Comments

A Colorado woman wounded in a movie theater shooting rampage that killed 12 on July 20th has criticized Megedeth singer Dave Mustaine for comments suggesting that President Obama had orchestrated the attack in pursuit of an anti-gun agenda, TMZ reports. "Some people think the president is a good scapegoat but he didn't shoot me," said Carli Richards, who was shot multiple times at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. She was one of 58 people injured by alleged shooter James Holmes.

Mustaine suggested August 7th at a concert in Singapore that as part of Obama's effort to "pass a gun ban," the president was "staging all these murders" in Aurora and in an attack that left six dead at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee August 5th. Mustaine expanded on his comments yesterday in an interview with InfoWars.com, which has put forth conspiracy theories on both attacks. "There's some questions here, I just think that we deserve to know the truth – that's it," the singer said. He latter added, "I'm a patriot, I love our country, I've always been controversial, I'm a political songwriter and this wasn't done to hurt any of my fellow countrymen – I think that it's something we really really need to look into."

Said Richards, "It's obviously kind of absurd and people who make up conspiracies just want attention."

Dave Mustaine Reveals 'Birther' Opinions

Dave Mustaine of Megadeth performs during Gigantour at the San Jose State Event Center in San Jose, California.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed his "birther" opinions on a Canadian talk show recently, saying he doubts President Barack Obama was born in the United States and voicing admiration for Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum.

Mustaine sat down with George Stroumboulopoulos, host of The Hour, and explained that he has "a lot of questions about him [President Obama], but certainly not where he was born. I know he was born somewhere else than America." Stroumboulopoulos then asked him if he was a birther, to which Mustaine demurred, but Stroumboulopoulos pushed the point: "Well, then you’re a birther," he replied to Mustaine's statement.

During the interview, the metal star also asked rhetorically what would be "the point" of questioning Obama's birthplace and continued to endorse former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who is currently vying with Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination. "He could be a really cool president, kinda like a JFK type of guy," he mused. Of Romney, he added, "George Soros came out and said Mitt Romney is just like Obama. So what do you got there? You’ve got Obama's mentor saying that Mitt Romney’s just like him, and he’s leading the polls now."

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Endorses Rick Santorum

mustaine 576 Dave Mustaine of Megadeth performs during The Big 4 Festival in Indio, California.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine says he hopes Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is our next president. Mustaine, who once covered the Democratic National Convention for MTV (back in 1992), told Music Radar he wants a Republican president and disagrees with music industry colleagues who say President Obama is doing a good job.

"I don't think so," said the veteran headbanger. "Not from what I see."

He has questions about Mitt Romney's extreme wealth, he said, and his interest in Newt Gingrich has waned. "He's just gone back to being that person that everybody said he was – that angry little man," Mustaine said. "I still like him, but I don't think I'd vote for him."

Santorum, who kept his hopes alive last week by winning GOP primaries and caucuses in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado, "has some presidential qualities," said Mustaine. Though he admitted he was "completely oblivious" about the candidate earlier in the primary season, he was impressed when Santorum left the campaign trail to spend time with his ailing daughter.

Dave Mustaine: I'm Not Ready to Endorse Rick Santorum

Megadeth rocker Dave Mustaine has clarified his position of support for Republic presidential candidate Rick Santorum, saying that he is not ready to give a full endorsement of the former Pennsylvania senator.

"Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate," Mustaine said in a statement. "What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House. I've seen good qualities in all the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet. I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word 'endorse.'"

Mustaine told Music Radar that he is very unhappy with President Obama's term in the White House, and said that his support for Newt Gingrich has waned recently. "He's just gone back to being that person that everybody said he was – that angry little man," Mustaine said. "I still like him, but I don't think I'd vote for him."
