Jon Stewart Taking 'Daily Show' Hiatus to Direct First Movie

Jon Stewart on the set of 'The Daily Show'

Jon Stewart will take 12 weeks off from The Daily Show this summer to direct his first film, Rosewater, with longtime correspondent John Oliver sitting in as host for eight weeks of new shows, Deadline Hollywood reports.

Stewart also wrote the screenplay for Rosewater, which he adapted from the book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity and Survival by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy.

A BBC journalist, Bahari left his pregnant fiancé in June 2009 to cover Iran's presidential elections; his scheduled weeklong trip turned into a 118 day ordeal in one of Iran's most notorious prisons, where he was brutally interrogated by a man who smelled like Rosewater.

Outside his directorial and writing duties, Stewart himself played a bit part in Bahari's story: The journalist was held under suspicion that he was a spy, and one of the items used against him was an appearance on The Daily Show.

'Breaking Bad' Star Bryan Cranston to Direct Episode of 'The Office'

bryan cranston Bryan Cranston as Walter White in 'Breaking Bad.'

When he's not cooking meth as Walter White on Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston likes directing sitcoms: the menacing star of AMC's hit show steps behind the camera to direct an epsiode of The Office this season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cranston will direct an episode called "Work Bus" that's scheduled to air October 18th. He's previously taken the reins on installments of Modern Family and Malcolm in the Middle (on which he played the father), as well as Breaking Bad.

Office co-star Rainn Wilson let word slip on Twitter yesterday when he posted a photo of himself posing with Cranston and wrote, "Free meth for 'The Office!' (look who's directing)." Cranston has won three Emmys for his work on Breaking Bad and is currently nominated for Best Actor in a Drama.

The Office returns September 20th on NBC.

'Mad Men' Creator to Direct Movie Starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifiniakis

Mad Men creator, Matthew Weiner Mad Men creator, Matthew Weiner

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner has signed on to direct his first movie, Reuters reports. The film, titled You Are Here, was written by Weiner years ago. It will star Owen Wilson and Zach Galifinakis as a pair of friends who head off on a road trip after a family death. Amy Poehler is close to striking a deal to star as the sister of Wilson's character. The film is scheduled to shoot in May.

"This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true," Weiner said in a statement. "I can't wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about, and I'm tired of reading it out loud to my friends."

Weiner's work on Mad Men has earned four Emmys for best drama, one for each season it has been on the air. The first episode of the new season, which premiered on Sunday night, drew the show's largest viewership to date. Prior to his work on Mad Men, Weiner was a staff writer for The Sopranos.
