Morrissey Responds to Death of a Superfan: 'Rest Well'

Morrissey performs in Davis, California.

Morrissey was stricken with pneumonia this week, forcing him to postpone a gig in San Francisco and cancel his performance at Mexico City's Vive Latino festival. But the singer found the energy to write an open letter to a super fan who recently died. Writing on fan site True-to-You, Morrissey recalled Margaret Dale's dedication to his music and live shows, and noted how his recent signature on her arm became a tattoo.

100 Greatest Singers: Morrissey

"I can only hope, for Margaret, that death yields the profit of rest, and somehow provides her with a listener," wrote Morrissey. "We all weary of living in the same skin day after day, in a world where only the blandly trivial are allowed to be heard, but there is nothing wrong with taking your destiny into your own hands, just as there is nothing wrong in understanding what is meant for you and what isn't."

Morrissey called Dale a "woman of action" and added a dig against "the constitutional frigidity of a media world now openly obsessed with zombies and morons." He closed with "rest well." While reports and the tone of Morrissey's letter suggest Dale's sudden death may have been suicide, there has not been confirmation. Full text of the letter follows below.

I did not know Margaret on a personal level, but she was always there on the front row - the U.K., the U.S., Israel - wherever we'd go, she'd go. Last week Margaret drove behind the tour bus all the way from Davis to Seattle, and managed to get onstage at Davis. I had signed her arm and it was now a tattoo. This week she is dead.

I can only hope, for Margaret, that death yields the profit of rest, and somehow provides her with a listener. We all weary of living in the same skin day after day, in a world where only the blandly trivial are allowed to be heard, but there is nothing wrong with taking your destiny into your own hands, just as there is nothing wrong in understanding what is meant for you and what isn't. We are plonked into life without ever choosing to be, and we are despised if we fail to find a paralyzed spot in which to keep still and shut up. Margaret was a woman of action, who now knows the soul of the world.

Meanwhile, on today's AOL News Page, headlines tell us that Victoria Beckham has reportedly dropped her "fake" look, and William and Kate are in search of yet another home - the constitutional frigidity of a media world now openly obsessed with zombies and morons.

Rest well, Margaret.

Mac Miller's Label Responds to Lord Finesse Lawsuit

mac miller Mac Miller performs at the Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.

Mac Miller's record company has released a statement denying charges made in a lawsuit filed against the rapper over his 2010 track, "Kool Aid and Frozen Pizza."

Hip-hop veteran Lord Finesse is claiming that Miller ripped off his 1995 track "Hip 2 the Game" for the breakout hit that appeared on Miller's mixtape K.I.D.S. Finesse is suing for $10 million in federal court in Manhattan.

"There have been a lot of misstatements online and in the press, so we thought it'd be best to make some brief comments," says the statement from Rostrum Records, who is also named in Lord Finesse's suit, along with mixtape website DatPiff.com.  "First and foremost, we stand by Mac Miller in this situation and we will fight the case together with him.

"Mac never pretended that the 'Hip 2 Da Game' beat was his, despite what's being said in the suit.  Lord Finesse was given credit on both the video and the mixtape from the very beginning.  We've never distributed 'Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza' for sale on iTunes and have consistently policed digital retailers and other sites to make sure that no pirates were ever illegally selling the song.

"Lord Finesse has known about 'Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza' for a long time and never objected to the use.  For some reason, he has very recently changed his mind."

Drake Rep Responds to 'Marvin's Room' Lawsuit

drake Drake performs at the Joint inside the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.

A spokesperson for Drake has responded to the lawsuit filed against the rapper over royalties for the song "Marvin's Room." As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, a woman who says she is Drake's ex-girlfriend is claiming that she was wrongfully excluded from sharing co-writer royalties for the song.

"This claim is entirely without merit and our client has not engaged in any wrongful conduct," the spokesperson told Rolling Stone. "Ericka Lee consented to the use of her voice in the song 'Marvin’s Room' prior to its release. Lee asked only for the credit she received as 'Syren Lyric Muse,' and she did not ask for any compensation. It was only after she retained a lawyer that there was a demand for payment.  Drake tried for months to resolve the matter amicably, and he now looks forward to being vindicated in court."
