Rihanna Cancels Boston Concert Due to Laryngitis

Rihanna has canceled tonight's concert in Boston after losing her voice to laryngitis. The singer was scheduled to perform at TD Garden as the second stop on the Diamonds World Tour that she kicked off just two days ago in Buffalo, New York. 

"Unfortunately, following her sold-out concert on Friday, Rihanna has contracted laryngitis and per doctor's instruction is unable to perform this evening," Live Nation said in a statement, according to Us Weekly.

Rihanna posted two notes regarding the cancelation on Twitter this afternoon. "#BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we've been waiting on this day forever, and I'm hurt that I let you down," she said in the first note, and followed up on the sentiment shortly afterwards. "I hate disappointing people that never ever let me down!! I'm so embarrassed about this! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes!"

Rihanna's next performance is set for Baltimore on March 12th, and is expected to go on. The Boston concert will be rescheduled for a later date.

"I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

The couple's public reconciliation comes less than four years since Brown assaulted Rihanna the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards. Brown plead guilty to assault and performed community service, but he remains on probation. "When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna says. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that."

And Rihanna says that if Brown were ever to display a hint of his past behavior towards her, she is ready to walk. "He doesn't have the luxury of fucking up again," she says. "That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by that. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."

In an TV interview set to air on August 19th, Rihanna opens up to Oprah Winfrey about ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and the infamous 2009 incident in which he beat her the night before she was to perform on the Grammys. Sobbing on camera, the singer says she felt protective of Brown and worried that he would be demonized. Still, the altercation left Rihanna in emotional tatters.

"It was embarrassing, it was humiliating," Rihanna tells Winfrey. "I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched, switched in a night, and I couldn't control that." The situation unsettled Rihanna, putting her in a "weird, confusing space" with layers of complexity. "As angry as I was – as angry and hurt and betrayed – I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. And who's going to help him?" she continues.

"Nobody's going to say he needs help. Everybody's going to say he's a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him," she says.

Though Winfrey came into the interview expecting a battle-hardened Rihanna, she says the experience defied her preconceptions. "I thought she was going to be kind of a badass, kind of a hard-edged rocker, pop woman. Nothing could have been further from the truth," Winfrey said.

Deadmau5 and Rihanna Perform at Post-Grammy Charity Fundraiser

The shiny metallic streamers were already six inches deep on the floor by the time Deadmau5 came onstage last night at L.A.’s House of Blues, where the Canadian electro star headlined a wee-hours post-Grammy gig that also featured performances by Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. With ticket prices ranging from $250 to $1,000, the concert was billed as a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Yet it also served as one more sign of what Skrillex had called a “crazy year” for dance music when he won the first of three Grammys earlier Sunday. Put it this way: Last night Rihanna was onstage for approximately seven minutes, while Harris (who wrote and produced Rihanna’s hit “We Found Love”) played for an hour. And nobody seemed to mind.
Not that Rihanna’s seven minutes weren’t a bite-sized thrill. Rocking a checked mini-dress and blonde Farrah Fawcett 'do, she jumped, fist-pumped and perhaps even a sang a bit of her way through jacked-up versions of “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love” with help from Harris and two backup vocalists. Confetti fell from the ceiling during the climax of the latter tune, and then Rihanna was gone, good deed done and no doubt some after-after-party to get to.
The gearheads’ sets were no less festive, with Ingrosso, Harris and Deadmau5 all dropping Daft Punk tunes to the crowd’s immense delight. Harris even threw in Fatboy Slim’s always-welcome “Praise You,” not to mention a few bars of “By the Way” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. (Maybe the Scottish disco revivalist is gunning for Deadmau5’s spot in next year’s rock-meets-electronica Grammy thing.) The masked one himself actually removed his signature costume piece a few minutes into his set, but he never abandoned his dedication to the seemingly endless crescendo. Fresh from a huge television spot, Deadmau5 started high and kept climbing.

The shiny metallic streamers were already six inches deep on the floor by the time Deadmau5 came onstage last night at L.A.’s House of Blues, where the Canadian electro star headlined a wee-hours post-Grammy gig that also featured performances by Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. With ticket prices ranging from $250 to $1,000, the concert was billed as a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Yet it also served as one more sign of what Skrillex had called a “crazy year” for dance music when he won the first of three Grammys earlier Sunday. Put it this way: Last night Rihanna was onstage for approximately seven minutes, while Harris (who wrote and produced Rihanna’s hit “We Found Love”) played for an hour. And nobody seemed to mind.
Not that Rihanna’s seven minutes weren’t a bite-sized thrill. Rocking a checked mini-dress and blonde Farrah Fawcett 'do, she jumped, fist-pumped and perhaps even a sang a bit of her way through jacked-up versions of “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love” with help from Harris and two backup vocalists. Confetti fell from the ceiling during the climax of the latter tune, and then Rihanna was gone, good deed done and no doubt some after-after-party to get to.
The gearheads’ sets were no less festive, with Ingrosso, Harris and Deadmau5 all dropping Daft Punk tunes to the crowd’s immense delight. Harris even threw in Fatboy Slim’s always-welcome “Praise You,” not to mention a few bars of “By the Way” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. (Maybe the Scottish disco revivalist is gunning for Deadmau5’s spot in next year’s rock-meets-electronica Grammy thing.) The masked one himself actually removed his signature costume piece a few minutes into his set, but he never abandoned his dedication to the seemingly endless crescendo. Fresh from a huge television spot, Deadmau5 started high and kept climbing.

Roc Nation and Three Six Zero Group are teaming up to present a charity concert featuring performances from Rihanna, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The one-off gig, which will take place on February 12th, will benefit the Children’s Orthopaedic Center and The Mark Taper–Johnny Mercer Artists Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Tickets for the event will go for $1000 each, and will go on sale today at 5 p.m. PT. The bill will also include sets by Chris Lake and Michael Woods,  but given that this show will be taking place on the same night as the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, there's some possibility that other stars may turn up, either on stage or in the audience.

Rihanna to Produce U.K. Fashion Competition Show

Rihanna has signed on to be the executive producer of a new fashion competition show being developed for British television. The show, which does not yet have a title, is set to debut on the Sky Living channel in Britain. It will be hosted by Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and include appearances by Rihanna herself, though it is unclear how frequently the pop star will be on the show.

"I've always had a great love of fashion. It's a constant source of inspiration in my life, and is a big reason why I've grown into the person and artist I am today," the singer said in a statement on Sky Living's website. "I have been very fortunate to work with some truly amazing designers and stylists throughout my career, and they have been instrumental in making sure my creative vision reaches the stage. I am excited to follow the journey of our aspiring contestants and see how their individuality influences their efforts during the course of the show."

The show, which will presumably bear some resemblance to Project Runway in terms of format, will culminate with a final challenge in which the remaining designers must create a unique stage outfit for Rihanna's performance at the Wireless festival in Hyde Park, England, in July.
