"I really wanted to write a song about sticking to your guns and being so engrossed in a crazy goal, that you can make anything happen. Production-wise, this is first song where I stepped out of my comfort zone of sampling and tried using synths and effect pedals," Ecid tells Rolling Stone. "What's crazy is that this was my first attempt at using these tools which, to me, were relatively foreign – I'd used them before, but not in a way, until now, that matched my ability with sampling."

Michelle Obama to Present Kids' Choice Award to Taylor Swift

Michelle Obama will present an award to Taylor Swift at the Kids' Choice Awards. In honor of her involvement with charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity, Swift will receive the Big Help Award from the First Lady during Nickelodeon's annual awards show Saturday night. The Big Help Award celebrates the outstanding charity of individuals and looks to spark the same compassion in children. With her presentation, Obama will be effectively passing the torch: she won the award in 2010.

Last year, Swift opened a dress rehearsal for her "Speak Now" tour to the public, raising $750,000 for storm victims in the South. Back in February, Swift announced she'll be taking leukemia patient Kevin McGuire as her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1st. Her latest hit, "Ours," recently hit Number One on the Billboard country chart.

Katy Perry was the big winner at last night's People's Choice Awards, scoring five awards out of seven nominations, including prizes for favorite female artist, tour headliner, song ("E.T.") and music video, for her hit "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" The singer also won an award for her acting as a guest star in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Perry was not on hand to accept the awards, though, since she backed out of the appearance in the wake of her split from husband Russell Brand.

Other winners in music categories include Demi Lovato, who beat out superstars Perry, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Rihanna to win for favorite pop artist, and Bruno Mars, who took home the prize for favorite male artist. Lady Gaga won favorite album of the year for Born This Way, Maroon 5 won for favorite band and Rihanna beat out ex-boyfriend Chris Brown for favorite R&B artist.

Katy Perry Drops Out of People's Choice Awards After Split with Russell Brand

Katy Perry has dropped out of plans to attend the People's Choice Awards, which would have been her first public appearance since splitting with her husband, comedian Russell Brand. Perry has been nominated for seven awards at this year's show, which will air on CBS tomorrow night.

"Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS," Perry announced on her Twitter account yesterday. Perry has kept a low profile since separating from Brand. Aside from this message, Perry's only word to her fans in recent days has been a tweet urging them not to trust reporting from gossip sites and magazines. "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family," she wrote.

Russell Brand filed papers for divorce in Los Angeles just before New Year's Eve, citing irreconcilable differences. Brand and Perry had been married for 14 months.
