After previously announcing it will host Swedish House Mafia's last-ever live performance and a headlining set from Deadmau5, today Ultra Music Festival revealed a new batch of top-tier talent set to appear at the fifteenth annual dance-music gathering: Tiësto, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Kaskade, Avicii and Major Lazer.

The 30 Greatest EDM Albums of All Time

Among the other EDM stars joining the bill are Afrojack, Bassnectar, Armin Van Buren and Carl Cox. Non-DJ acts set to perform – all with dance-friendly vibes (in a release, the festival dubbed them the "live" acts) – include Hot Chip, Crystal Castles, Yeasayer, Knife Party, and Matt and Kim.

For the first time this year, Ultra will take place across two weekends this March at Miami's Bayfront Park. Deadmau5 and Gerard Way Face Off in Ultimate Fighting Ring

When it came time to debut the video for his high-octane single "Professional Griefers," Deadmau5 knew where to turn: the equally aggressive world of ultimate fighting.

On September 1st, the DJ-producer will unveil his clip during the UFC Jones vs. Henderson pay-per-view match. It features the recent Rolling Stone cover star locked in a futuristic gladiatorial bout with his guest vocalist, Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. True to form, both combatants control oversized, CGI "mau5" robots.

The video won't be released online until August 29th, but you can check out some exclusive promo posters of the would-be UFC warriors here.

Deadmau5 Plans Break: 'I'm Basically Pretty Miserable Right Now'

Superstar DJ Deadmau5 plans to "unplug for a wee bit" and take some time off, he wrote in a post on his Tumblr.

"I'm basically pretty miserable right now," the Canadian producer wrote, "and need to pull the fuck back and figure out whatever the fuck it is I do." 

While Deadmau5 promised he won't cancel any scheduled shows and said he plans to still write and release new material, he noted, "I'm just gonna slam on the breaks for a bit and force myself to endure some quiet time." 

The post did mention an upcoming release – "heads up for something crazy real soon," he wrote – and Deadmau5 implied that the down time was necessary for work-related reasons: "best I just chill the fuck out a bit and just get it done, and get it done RIGHT, until I'm 100% satisfied with it." 

"Then our regularly scheduled program shall continue," he added.

Madonna Resolves Feud With Deadmau5

Madonna introduces Avicii as part of Day Two of Ultra Music Festival 14 at Bayfront Park in Miami.

Madonna responded to Deadmau5's criticism of her apparent reference to MDMA at the Ultra Music Festival over the weekend in a tweet last night. The electronic producer condemned the pop icon yesterday for asking "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?" before introducing Avicii at the festival, appropriating a bit of well-known slang for seeking MDMA. "You're a role model to 100's of millions," Deadmau5 wrote. "EDM could use your positive influence, not 'molly' talk."

The singer posted a response in the form of an old photo of herself wearing Mickey Mouse ears – a nod to Deadmau5's iconic mouse helmet – and insisted that she does not "support drug use" and clarified that her comment was in fact a reference to the song "Have You Seen Molly" by Cedric Gervais, who she almost collaborated with on her new album, MDNA. (The album title is, of course, another nod to MDMA.)

Deadmau5 responded to the singer's tweet by writing "fair enough, i was just voicing my concerns as i usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally." Deadmau5 Rails Against Collaborations

Electronic dance music star Deadmau5 posted a rant against being forced into collaborations on his Tumblr earlier today. "All too often, there’s an influx of 'big names' that would get thrown around the label from time to time and of course, they fly off the table and out the fuckin door faster than they hit my desk," the producer wrote. "Do you want to do a track with big name X, remix huge pop act Y, etc. etc. No. I fucking don’t. I really REALLY don’t."

Deadmau5 went on to explain that while he has enjoyed working with the Foo Fighters, Cypress Hill and Flipside, he has no interest in creating music that will "have some fucking dipshit blab about lookin sexy, poppin bottles, 'dropping bass,' or ANYTHING club related."

Though the producer declined to name names, he expressed some bitterness about how those themes get filtered into most crossover dance hits. Later in the post, Deadmau5 wrote about a more organic collaboration with an unknown singer named Chris James, whom he found on Twitter after James added vocals to a Deadmau5 track online.

The shiny metallic streamers were already six inches deep on the floor by the time Deadmau5 came onstage last night at L.A.’s House of Blues, where the Canadian electro star headlined a wee-hours post-Grammy gig that also featured performances by Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. With ticket prices ranging from $250 to $1,000, the concert was billed as a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Yet it also served as one more sign of what Skrillex had called a “crazy year” for dance music when he won the first of three Grammys earlier Sunday. Put it this way: Last night Rihanna was onstage for approximately seven minutes, while Harris (who wrote and produced Rihanna’s hit “We Found Love”) played for an hour. And nobody seemed to mind.
Not that Rihanna’s seven minutes weren’t a bite-sized thrill. Rocking a checked mini-dress and blonde Farrah Fawcett 'do, she jumped, fist-pumped and perhaps even a sang a bit of her way through jacked-up versions of “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love” with help from Harris and two backup vocalists. Confetti fell from the ceiling during the climax of the latter tune, and then Rihanna was gone, good deed done and no doubt some after-after-party to get to.
The gearheads’ sets were no less festive, with Ingrosso, Harris and Deadmau5 all dropping Daft Punk tunes to the crowd’s immense delight. Harris even threw in Fatboy Slim’s always-welcome “Praise You,” not to mention a few bars of “By the Way” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. (Maybe the Scottish disco revivalist is gunning for Deadmau5’s spot in next year’s rock-meets-electronica Grammy thing.) The masked one himself actually removed his signature costume piece a few minutes into his set, but he never abandoned his dedication to the seemingly endless crescendo. Fresh from a huge television spot, Deadmau5 started high and kept climbing.

Roc Nation and Three Six Zero Group are teaming up to present a charity concert featuring performances from Rihanna, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The one-off gig, which will take place on February 12th, will benefit the Children’s Orthopaedic Center and The Mark Taper–Johnny Mercer Artists Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Tickets for the event will go for $1000 each, and will go on sale today at 5 p.m. PT. The bill will also include sets by Chris Lake and Michael Woods,  but given that this show will be taking place on the same night as the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, there's some possibility that other stars may turn up, either on stage or in the audience.
