Quentin Tarantino: Blaming Newton Shooting on Movies Is 'Disrespectful'

Quentin Tarantino said that linking movie violence with the recent school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, is "disrespectful" in an interview with NPR. When Fresh Air host Terry Gross asked Tarantino whether movie violence lost its "fun" after the Newtown shootings, the Django Unchained director replied, "Not for me." Gross pushed on the point, which irritated Tarantino.

"When you say, 'After the tragedy,' what do you mean by that exactly?" he asked. "Do you mean, 'On that day, would I watch The Wild Bunch?' Maybe not on that day. Would I watch a kung fu movie three days after the Sandy Hook massacre? Maybe, because they have nothing to do with each other."

Movie Review: 'Django Unchained'

Gross asked Tarantino if he was becoming annoyed, and he replied that he was. "I think it's disrespectful to their memory, actually . . . to talk about movies," he said. "I think it's totally disrespectful to their memory. Obviously, the issue is gun control and mental health."

Tarantino noted questions about violence in film have followed him throughout his career, and said his stance hasn't changed. "I've been asked this question for 20 years – about the effects of violence in movies related to violence in real life," he said. "My answer is the same 20 years ago. It hasn't changed one iota. Obviously, I don't think one has to do with the other."

A local promotor and newspaper editor in Newtown are looking for acts for benefit shows to support the community and survivors of the shooting. They have secured open dates for late January and early February at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

Missouri Man Charged With Plotting 'Twilight' Theater Shooting

A 20-year-old Missouri man has been arrested and charged with plotting a movie theater shooting this weekend at a screening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two, which opened today, the Springfield News-Leader reports. Blaec Lammers has been charged with first-degree assault, making a terroristic threat and armed criminal action after his mother called authorities with concerns that her son had purchased firearms and was plotting a similar movie theater shooting to the Aurora, Colorado massacre in July during the opening night of The Dark Knight Rises.

Police apprehended Lammers in Bolivar, Missouri, and interviewed him. He admitted to purchasing two assault rifles "for hunting," then said he had bought two tickets to a Sunday showing of Breaking Dawn Part Two and acquired the guns with the intent to shoot people while at the movie.

"Blaec Lammers stated that he had a lot in common with the people that have been involved in those shootings," read the probable cause statement that led to his arrest. "Blaec Lammers stated that he was quiet, kind of a loner, had recently purchased firearms and didn't tell anybody about it, and had homicidal thoughts." Lammers also said he had purchased 400 rounds of ammunition and was "thinking about" shooting people at a local Walmart because the store sells ammunition, making supplies more convenient. He had recently practiced shooting on Tuesday but said he had never before shot a gun and that he was currently off an unspecified medication. The statement also referred to a 2009 incident in which Lammers had admitted he wanted to stab a Walmart employee to death and went to the store to follow an employee before being contacted by police. Bolivar City Administrator Darin Chappell said police believe Lammers was working alone.

Jennifer Lopez is currently shooting for a 3D concert film, reports Extra. Dance Again will follow the last few years of Lopez's life, during which she released Love?, filed for divorce from husband Marc Anthony, served a stint as a judge on American Idol and became acclimated to parenthood with new twins Emme and Maximilian.

Lopez's movie faces some underwhelming numbers from other recent 3D concert films. Katy Perry's Part Of Me premiered this past July 4th weekend at the number 8 spot with an opening gross of $7.1 million. The Jonas Brothers' 2009 film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was ripped by critics and earned a modest $23.1 million worldwide. However, Miley Cyrus' 2008 film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert was a bigger success, grossing over $29 million domestically in its opening weekend and over $70 million total worldwide. Metallica are also filming their own 3D concert movie. Lopez is currently on tour with Enrique Inglesias.

'Dark Knight' Shooting Victim Rips Dave Mustaine for Obama Comments

A Colorado woman wounded in a movie theater shooting rampage that killed 12 on July 20th has criticized Megedeth singer Dave Mustaine for comments suggesting that President Obama had orchestrated the attack in pursuit of an anti-gun agenda, TMZ reports. "Some people think the president is a good scapegoat but he didn't shoot me," said Carli Richards, who was shot multiple times at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. She was one of 58 people injured by alleged shooter James Holmes.

Mustaine suggested August 7th at a concert in Singapore that as part of Obama's effort to "pass a gun ban," the president was "staging all these murders" in Aurora and in an attack that left six dead at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee August 5th. Mustaine expanded on his comments yesterday in an interview with InfoWars.com, which has put forth conspiracy theories on both attacks. "There's some questions here, I just think that we deserve to know the truth – that's it," the singer said. He latter added, "I'm a patriot, I love our country, I've always been controversial, I'm a political songwriter and this wasn't done to hurt any of my fellow countrymen – I think that it's something we really really need to look into."

Said Richards, "It's obviously kind of absurd and people who make up conspiracies just want attention."

Shooting at Nipsey Hussle Concert Injures 13

Gunfire broke out in a crowd waiting outside a Tempe, Arizona club where rapper Nipsey Hussle was due to perform on Friday night.

The shooting happened just before midnight in the parking lot of the Clubhouse Music Venue. Tempe police sergeant Steve Carbajal told the Associated Press that "some sort of altercation" arose in the crowd, and that the police were seeking two suspects, both young men, who fled the scene after the shooting.

At least 13 people were injured, and two have been hospitalized in serious condition. 

Los Angeles-based Nipsey Hussle, who was headlining the Clubhouse show, did not end up taking the stage on Friday night. He later tweeted:

"Az....y'all gotta be cool man. This shit ain't rite."

According to the Phoenix New Times, a stabbing had occurred at the same venue’s parking lot in 2009.
