Trent Reznor Confirms New Nine Inch Nails Lineup, Tour

Trent Reznor has stayed busy in the four years since Nine Inch Nails’ farewell tour. In November, Trent Reznor broke the news to Rolling Stone that the band is working on new material. "All signs point to yes," he said. "There are some things in the works."

Today on his website, Reznor confirmed he is rebuilding Nine Inch Nails with an almost entirely new lineup, including bassist Eric Avery (formerly of Jane's Addiction), guitarist Adrian Belew (King Crimson), keyboardist Alessandro Cortini (NIN), keyboardist Josh Eustis (Puscifer, Telefon Tel Aviv) and drummer Ilan Rubin (NIN, Lostprophets)." "Nine Inch Nails are touring this year," Reznor writes. "The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the U.S. this fall and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014."

Reznor revived the project while working with the King Crimson guitarist. "I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows."

Reznor has a full plate: his other band, How to Destroy Angels – his project with wife Mariqueen Maandig, Rob Sheridan and Atticus Ross – releases its new album March 5th and will tour in April.

Despite NIN's "Wave Goodbye" tour, Reznor maintains the band never ended. "I never said that that wasn't going to happen, just that it couldn't go on as it was," he told Rolling Stone. "Having a few years doing other things, I've enjoyed [them] and I'm enjoying doing How to Destroy Angels, and there will be a place for stuff that falls in the Nine Inch Nails column of things. It's a different kind of work."

Drake Co-Producing Posthumous Aaliyah Album, Label Confirms

Drake will co-produce Aaliyah's posthumous album and Timbaland and Missy Elliott will be involved in the project, the R&B singer's label, Blackground Records, confirms to Billboard. Drake and his close collaborator, Noah "40" Shebib, will co-produce the LP using 16 unreleased tracks and "fragments" as source material. Blackground, run by Aaliyah's cousin Jomo Hankerson and his father Barry, hopes to release the album by the end of the year.

"We really felt like it was time. There's a real new generation that doesn't know her necessarily, and we wanted to continue her musical legacy with this new generation. That's one of the reasons why we wanted to do very contemporary music," said Hankerson. "We didn't want to make it a nostalgic project; we already did that with the 'I Care 4 U' album. The idea was to release new music for her diehard fans, and also reintroduce her music to a new generation that doesn't really understand how much influence she has in the music that they're listening to today."

While Hankerson did not specify if Timbaland had already produced tracks for the album, he did reveal part of Missy Elliott's involvement. "One of the records that we had that was never released was a Missy record that we obviously are going to be refreshing," he said. Still, Hankerson made clear both artists will work on the project. "I can tell you that Timbaland will definitely be involved, Missy will definitely be involved," he said.

At first, Hankerson denied Drake had signed on as a producer, downplaying his contributions to song appearances. But Blackground later reached out to Billboard to confirm Drake's role as executive co-producer.

Earlier this week, a new Aaliyah track featuring Drake was posted online by Blackground. Aaliyah died on August 25th, 2001, in a plane crash. She was 22. The Drake-produced record would be her second posthumous album, following 2002's I Care 4 U.

New Aerosmith Album Due in Three Months, Band Confirms

At a press conference at the Grove mall in Los Angeles, just around the corner from the American Idol studio, the members of Aerosmith (minus guitarist Brad Whitford) bravely stepped into the sunshine and proved that they don't melt in daylight. After being introduced by Jimmy Kimmel – "Aerosmith are literally walking this way" – the band confirmed that their Global Warming tour will kick off on June 16th in Minneapolis; it's currently scheduled through August 8th, with Cheap Trick rocking the opening slot.

But the big news was that the band's 15th studio album, their first in eight years, is almost done and should be released in roughly three months. "We've been underground for four months, doing what we do best," said Steven Tyler, who was wearing a half-buttoned shimmery red polka dot shirt. "We got two more songs to finish" before mixing, he added. Among the song titles on the album are "Legendary Child," "Beautiful" and "Out Go the Lights."

Tyler and his bandmate Joe Perry seemed comfortable with one another. Tyler mentioned how happy he was that the guitarist performed "Happy Birthday" to mark his 64th on Idol, and when Perry was asked about the perks of having a TV star in the band, he said drily, "He gives us free sunglasses."  

As the band left the stage, Tyler issued a promise to Aerosmith fans: "We will not let you down."

Adam Lambert Confirms He Will Sing With Queen

Adam Lambert has confirmed through Twitter that he will be performing with Queen this summer. The American Idol star will join guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor on July 7th, as Queen headlines the second day of the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park in England.

Lambert has long expressed his admiration for Queen and their late frontman, Freddie Mercury. For the American Idol finals in 2009, Lambert was backed onstage by the band’s surviving members for "We Are the Champions." In November 2011, Lambert performed several songs with them at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast.

Although reports came out earlier this month that Lambert would be performing again with Queen, the singer and his label, Hollywood Records, would not confirm any guest appearances until today.

"As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert! Sonisphere at Knebworth July 7th!" Lambert tweeted this afternoon. "Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could. Gonna be a surreal night!"

Freddie Mercury’s final performance with Queen took place at Knebworth Park in 1986.
