Rihanna Cancels Boston Concert Due to Laryngitis

Rihanna has canceled tonight's concert in Boston after losing her voice to laryngitis. The singer was scheduled to perform at TD Garden as the second stop on the Diamonds World Tour that she kicked off just two days ago in Buffalo, New York. 

"Unfortunately, following her sold-out concert on Friday, Rihanna has contracted laryngitis and per doctor's instruction is unable to perform this evening," Live Nation said in a statement, according to Us Weekly. 

Rihanna: Crazy in Love

Rihanna posted two notes regarding the cancelation on Twitter this afternoon. "#BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we've been waiting on this day forever, and I'm hurt that I let you down," she said in the first note, and followed up on the sentiment shortly afterwards. "I hate disappointing people that never ever let me down!! I'm so embarrassed about this! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes!"

Rihanna's next performance is set for Baltimore on March 12th, and is expected to go on. The Boston concert will be rescheduled for a later date.

Odd Future Gig Shut Down By Boston Cops

Odd Future's concert last night at the House of Blues in Boston was shut down by police, Pitchfork reports. "We wanted to finish [the show] but the owner of the club made us turn it off and the police are right there," group leader Tyler, the Creator said just as the venue cut off his microphone and stage lights. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the show was abruptly cut off after a crew member was arrested outside the venue.

Under the Gun Review reports that Lionel, a non-musical member of the hip-hop collective, was the one arrested outside. The site also reports that Odd Future member Jasper Dolphin was restrained by security after attempting to leap from the venue's balcony.

Boston Cops Crack Down on Moshing

Music fans create a "mosh pit" during a music festival.

Boston police are cracking down on moshing and slam-dancing at concerts in the city. Cops have cited an incident at a Flogging Molly show at the House of Blues on February 21st for a license violation, noting that 60 concertgoers engaged in "aggressive mosh pit dance," which resulted in people colliding into one another and getting knocked to the floor. This activity – which is pretty much par for the course at hardcore punk and metal gigs – violated safety rules, and the club was cited because security did not intervene.

"The safety of our patrons is the top priority," the House of Blues said in a statement. Representatives of the venue say they are working with city officials to "address concerns about moshing and other forms of expressive dance."

"Dancing is a First Amendment right, but the behavior itself is a violation, especially when it becomes dangerous and a public safety hazard," Boston police spokeswoman Officer Nicole Grant told the Boston Herald. The city of Boston addressed the topic after a City Hall hearing yesterday, while the House of Blues was ordered to put up illuminated signs throughout the venue declaring that moshing is not allowed.

The launch will be attended by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who will later join 30 Boston public school students for a youth summit on the issue of bullying in schools as part of Gaga's anti-bullying campaign.

Gaga started the Born This Way Foundation last year with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta. "My mother and I have initiated a passion project," Gaga said in a statement in November. "Together we hope to establish a standard of bravery and kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment." The singer visited the White House in December to meet with President Obama's senior advisor Valerie Jarrett on the topic of bullying.
