Abby Elliott to Appear as Love Interest on 'How I Met Your Mother'

Abby Elliott's first gig after leaving Saturday Night Live will be a multiple episode storyline on the upcoming eighth season of How I Met Your Mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Elliott will play Janeane, a "crazy" girl who strikes a main character's fancy.

The eighth season of How I Met Your Mother premeires September 24th on CBS, but Elliott won't appear until the second half of the season in 2013. SNL is expected to add new cast members following the departures of Elliott, Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig, and uncertainty about whether Jason Sudeikis will return. The show begins its 38th season September 15th.

Tom Waits to Appear on 'The Simpsons'

Tom Waits performs at the 26th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in New York City.

Tom Waits is set to make a guest appearance this fall on an episode of The Simpsons, TV Line reports. The gravel-voiced singer will play himself as a survivalist who introduces Homer Simpson to a community of "preppers" preparing to live off the grid in anticipation of a disaster. The episode, titled "Homer Goes to Prep School" will air some time in December.

Judging by the plot, the episode might make an interesting companion to the apocalyptic video for "Hell Broke Luce" that Waits released at the beginning of August.

By lending his voice to The Simpsons, Waits is joining an impressive roster of stars that the cartoon has nabbed for its 24th season. Justin Beiber announced last week that he will be making a cameo on the show in an episode called "The Fabulous Faker Boy," and Zoey Deschanel, Natalie Portman, Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen have also signed on.

Justin Bieber to Appear on 'The Simpsons'

Justin Bieber will be making his very own cameo on The Simpsons, Entertainment Weekly reports. The singer tweeted yesterday afternoon, "just did a voice over for the SIMPSONS!!! #swaggy," but later deleted the tweet. Simpsons executive producer Al Jean confirmed Bieber's guest spot, and revealed a tidbit about the storyline. "He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won't admit him," Jean said. But he also made clear the spot is just a cameo, so Beliebers shouldn't anticipate a Bieber-themed installment.

The episode has been titled "The Fabulous Faker Boy" and is set to air in 2013 as part of the upcoming 24th season of the The Simpsons, which begins September 30th on Fox. Other musical stars recently featured on the show include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ted Nugent and David Byrne. Zooey Deschanel, Edward Norton, Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman are among guests slated for the upcoming season.
