Australian psychedelic and classic rock-indebteded group Tame Impala are gearing up for the release of their second LP, Lonerism, out October 9th on Modular Recordings. While first single "Elephant" easily worms its way into your brain on its own, Todd Rundgren lends a thumping touch to his remix of the cut, which you can check out exclusively here.
"So we got back from tour one day, and Jay pulled this purpley weird looking record out of his bag that he got from some record shop in some place I don't even know," frontman Kevin Parker says. "And he was telling me about it as I was walking upstairs but I wasn't really listening as I was kind of tired and jetlagged . . . something about the guy from the Nazz's solo thing . . . Anyway a few minutes later I heard some kind of cosmic-ness going on downstairs, I resisted a few more minutes but the cosmic-ness continued so I pulled myself downstairs to see Jay with this look on his face like he'd just had his tits blown. Turns out he had indeed just has his tits blown. A few minutes later I had my tits blown too. The song was "International Feel" from the album A Wizard a True Star by Todd Rundgren. So from that day we were Todd Rundgren slaves. Fast forward like four years or something and Glen from our record label said he had agreed to do a remix of our new song "Elephant," which make me go pretty batty. So that's how that all happened. With an epic, futuristic storyline spanning multiple alien races, far-out space travel and the survival of the human species, the Halo videogame series demands a gripping cinematic score. For Halo 4, Massive Attack associate Neil Davidge composed more than 75 minutes of unique material with titles like "Awakening," "Haven" and "Requiem." On this remix of "Ascendancy," U.K. basshead Caspa infuses the juggernaut jam with a heavy low end and metallic gleams, giving the track an appropriately menacing feel.
The Halo 4 soundtrack will be available October 22nd. A remix album featuring Caspa, James Iha, Sander Van Doorn, Gui Boratto, Hundred Waters and more will be released the same day. Halo 4 is due November 6th for Xbox 360.

More details about the upcoming remix album of composer Philip Glass have surfaced, including a tracklist and October 23rd release date, Pitchfork reports. The album – which was reportedly inspired by conversations between Glass and Beck – will be released through Orange Mountain Music, Ernest Jenning and the Kora Records.
Rework: Philip Glass Remixed will be comprised of two CDs featuring Beck, Tyondai Braxton (formerly of Battles), Dan Deacon, Amon Tobin, Memory Tapes, Pantha du Prince and more.
Rework is one of many projects that will celebrate Glass's 75th birthday this January. The composer is set to continue his ongoing Einstein on the Beach tour, his opera The Perfect American (about the final days of Walt Disney) and more. Glass will also perform in September at All Tomorrow's Parties' I'll Be Your Mirror Festival at Pier 36 in New York.

The hottest song on alternative radio right now is Of Monsters and Men's "Little Talks," an engaging track that's earning comparisons to Mumford & Sons (though it displays, at times, a much harder edge). Now it's getting the remix treatment from Passion Pit. Of Monsters and Men co-lead singer Nanna BryndÃs Hilmarsdóttir is very impressed with the Passion Pit remix, which is premiering exclusively here.

"We love it," she tells Rolling Stone. "It’s more clubby and it’s very cool. It’s a hard song to remix, too, because it has a certain structure. So I think they did a very good job."
Having a Top 10 smash opens the door to collaborations and remixes. It's a world of possibilities the group never expected. Hell, they were surprised to get out of their own country. "When we were making this album we weren’t thinking about even going out of Iceland to tour or anything like that," says Hilmarsdóttir. "It seemed like a very, very distant idea, and it is a distant idea for a young Icelandic band. We made this album with just little money and plans to raise money where we could. It wasn’t planned at all, but it happened and it’s very weird. But it’s wonderful."
Among those aspects that qualify as weird are the band's enthusiastically sold-out shows. "People in Iceland are kind of more reserved. They’re trying to play it very cool," she says. "So it’s weird and cool to see people kind of lose their minds out there."
The most wonderful moment for the band thus far was their June 29th appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, she says. "That was a very exciting thing for all of us, as we kind of grew up watching Jay Leno," she says. "We all lost our minds when we heard we were doing Leno."
The band will be touring extensively for the rest of 2012, including appearances at the Newport Folk Festival and Lollapalooza. But they are already looking ahead a bit to their second album. "Ideas are starting to come," says Hilmarsdóttir. "I think traveling as much as we’ve been doing lately has been very good for us, because there are a lot of ideas coming.
"It’s a combination of all of it – going around and meeting different people and seeing buildings and landscapes and all this stuff. It does something to you and makes you think in a different way," she says.
Rod Stewart plays a schoolboy in love with an older temptress in “Maggie May” (“The morning sun when it’s in your face really shows your age”) — he claimed it was “more or less a true story about the first woman I had sex with.” The song, a last-minute addition to Every Picture Tells a Story, was initially the B side of “Reason to Believe.” Stewart has joked that if a DJ hadn't flipped the single over, he'd have gone back to his old job: digging graves.
