British pop acts One Direction and the Wanted have recently hit it big in the United States, ushering in what could be a new age of boy bands. Of course, boy bands have been with us for a very long time, arguably starting off with Sixties stars like the Beatles and the Monkees in their teen-idol phases and carrying on through Eighties stars New Edition and New Kids on the Block, Nineties megastars 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys, and the Jonas Brothers in the past decade.
