Fleet Foxes drummer J. Tillman announced his departure from the band in a post on his Tumblr yesterday. "Tokyo is my last show with the Foxes," he wrote, referring to the folk rock group's gig at Studio Coast tonight. Tillman was self-deprecating in the brief message: "Back into the gaping maw of obscurity I go," he joked, apologizing if he ever seemed "distant and obtuse" during meetings with fans.
Tillman was an active solo artist both before and during his time as a member of Fleet Foxes. His most recent solo LP, Singing Ax, was issued by Western Vinyl last year.
Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott of Fleet Foxes have also announced a new project, though they will not be leaving the band. The two have formed a new group called Poor Moon, and they will be releasing a debut EP called Illusion through Fleet Foxes' label, Sub Pop, on March 27th.
