Diddy Injured in Beverly Hills Car Crash

Sean 'Diddy' Combs at Macy's Passport Presents: Glamorama: 30th Anniversary in Los Angeles.

Sean "Diddy" Combs was shaken up in a car crash in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday, though hip-hop mogul was not taken to the hospital, The Associated Press reports.

According to Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino, Combs was a passenger in a Cadillac Escalade riding down Sunset Boulevard when a Lexus sedan turned left in front of the vehicle, causing the collision.

While Hoshino says Combs was complaining of pain, he decided to seek his own medical treatment rather than be taken to a hospital. Pictures from TMZ show the totaled front of the car and Combs lying on the grass following the crash.

There's been no word from Combs or his camp about the incident or the extent to which he was injured.

Blink-182 Split With Record Label

Travis Barker, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus of Blink 182.

After reuniting to make last year's Neighborhoods, Blink-182 have split from the band's record label Interscope, MTV reports. "Freedom!! Blink as of today, is now an independent Artist!!!!!"singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge tweeted yesterday with a photo of Mel Gibson in Braveheart. Blink-182 had been signed to Universal Music Group, Interscope's parent company, in some form since 1997.

"Yes indeed, we are no longer with Interscope. It's been a long, amazing journey with them, starting with Cargo records, then MCA, then Geffen and finally Interscope, but the time has come to move on," singer-bassist Mark Hoppus told MTV. "The reasons for us not working together are many and varied, but mostly we wish them luck in everything in their future, and thank those there who've worked so hard on Blink-182 throughout the years."

Hoppus said the band's plans include continuing the writing process "through the end of the year" and recording after their February tour of Australia.

"As far as labels, to be honest, we've been holding our breath waiting for final word from the attorneys that our contract with Interscope had ended. Now the future's a wide-open door," said Hoppus. "We're lucky to be in a position where, after 20 years in our band, we can be independent and open to all options. It's a very exciting time here. I feel like our band is in the best place it's been in a long time. I mean, just look at my hair!"

Katy Perry Warms Up Crowd for Obama

katy perry obama las vegas Katy Perry performs at an Obama campaign rally in Las Vegas.

Katy Perry has long since outgrown opening-act status, unless the president is headlining: The pop star last night warmed up the crowd for President Obama at a free rally in Las Vegas, according to The Hollywood Reporter, where she performed "Let's Stay Together," "Part of Me," "Teenage Dream," "Wide Awake" and "Firework."

Wearing a tight dress fashioned to look like a ballot (with the Obama/Biden square filled in, of course), she encouraged the crowd of 13,000, particularly first-time voters, to cast their ballots as part of Nevada's early-voter iniative. "You know, I've got my poll outfit sorted," she said. "When I go the polls in California, it's going to be on point. It's going to be red, white and blue, for you-know-who. So you'd better do it, or I'm going to come and get you."

Later, Obama arrived to deliver a version of his stump speech – augmented by a kiss on the cheek from Perry's 91-year-old grandmother.

The rally was the third stop on a three-day campaign trip through swing states for the president, who flew to Las Vegas from Los Angeles after taping an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno earlier in the day.

High and Tight: World Series Predictions

The Detroit Tigers take on the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.Patrick McDermott/Getty Images; Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images

The Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants are two of the most venerable and venerated franchises in major league history; the Tigers have been around since 1894, while the Giants can trace their lineage back to the New York Gothams of 1883. But while the two clubs are certainly no strangers to October glory – the Giants have won six World Series rings, and the Tigers four – these two behemoths have never actually faced off against each other in the Fall Classic. Until now . . .

While the 108th World Series doesn't pack the geographical or historical animosity of, say, a Tigers-Cardinals or Giants-Yankees matchup, this San Francisco-Detroit pairing still packs one helluva cultural clash. Think Mission burritos versus Coney dogs, Lawrence Ferlinghetti versus Elmore Leonard, the Fillmore West versus the Grande Ballroom, the Grateful Dead versus the Stooges, Sly & the Family Stone versus Parliament-Funkadelic, the City by the Bay versus the City of Impending Zombie Apocalypse.

Not to mention there's the showdown between two strong MVP candidates, AL Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera vs. NL Comeback Player of the Year Buster Posey, along with the intriguing possibility of a post-game pie-eating contest between Prince Fielder and Pablo "Kung Fu Panda" Sandoval. And for once, the All-Star Game's determination of World Series home field advantage actually makes some kind of poetic sense: Giants ace Matt Cain was the ASG's winning pitcher (and now-disgraced Giants PED-popper Melky Cabrera was the MVP), while Tigers ace Justin Verlander served up the first-inning bombs that put the AL in a 5-0 hole.

But mostly, the 2012 World Series should be a dogfight between two very good teams with excellent pitching – you know, the thing that's supposed to trump hitting when the postseason chips are down. The Tigers would seem to have the advantage, at least in that their rotation (which has posted an otherworldly 1.02 ERA thus far in October) is well-rested and leading with Verlander against the inscrutable Barry Zito in Game 1, while the Giants are scrambling to reset their rotation after Monday's NLCS win, and we won't see Cain until at least Game 3. But the Giants have a stronger bullpen, and if Tigers skipper Jim Leyland (who often acts as if he's sending Strat-O-Matic cards in to pitch, rather than running-on-fumes relievers) reverts to his previous reliance upon Joaquin Benoit and Jose Valverde for the 8th and 9th innings, the Giants could easily head to Detroit with two walk-off wins in their back pockets.

There's also the "rest versus momentum" sub-plot: The Tigers, who finally got hot in mid-September after a season of underachieving, have now been off for five days, while the Giants are coming in fresh from a three-game win streak. Hardcore Tigers fans (full disclosure: I am one) still gag at the memory of the steaming, stinking dump Leyland's well-rested (and heavily favored) team laid against the Cardinals in the 2006 World Series. But Verlander and Omar Infante aside, this is an entirely different Detroit team than that '06 squad; and if Leyland's figured out a way to keep his players sharp, loose and motivated during their break – and if Posey continues to perfect the A-Rod impression that he unexpectedly unveiled against the Cardinals – the Giants could suddenly find themselves in deep trouble.

Either way, this is shaping up to be a great – maybe even truly epic – World Series between two immensely talented teams populated by some very memorable characters. If you can't get excited about it, you simply don't deserve baseball. My prognostication? Tigers, in seven very tough games. Now, let's see what our esteemed panel of rock & roll seamheads are predicting.

alice cooper

Name: Alice Cooper
Position: Vocals

A team has got to peak at the right time to win the series, and at this point, Detroit is peaking at just the right moment. I think they will win in six games. In fact, I think they will be tough to beat. And if it comes down to a Game Seven, they'd have Verlander. Maybe I'm biased – there's still a little kid from Detroit living inside me. Go Tigers!

Name: Scott McCaughey
Band:
The Baseball Project, The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows
Position:
Guitar, Vocals

I certainly can't pick against my Giants again, the way this topsy-turvy postseason is going. Though with Verlander on the hill two or three games for the Tigers, Los Gigantes have yet another uphill battle. More miracles, bad hops and clutch performances from unlikely sources ensue. San Francisco in six, celebrating in their appropriate colors on Halloween night.

Name: Ken Casey
Band:
Dropkick Murphys
Position:
Bass guitar, Vocals

The advantage goes to a rested Tigers rotation of Verlander, Fister, Sanchez and Scherzer. But the home field goes to the Giants. The postseason magic of guys like Zito, Scutero and Lincecum will fade here to the Triple Crown winner Cabrera and his accompanying cast of proven veterans, as well as their proven skipper in Jim Leyland. Tigers in five or six.

Name: Handsome Dick Manitoba
Band:
Manitoba
Position:
Vocals

The Manhattan Giants in six. With a team hitting on all cylinders, and a very good pitching staff top to bottom, the Tigers that looked like Christy Mathewson was throwing everyday versus the Yankees will be mauled.

vinnie paul

Name: Vinnie Paul

I predict the Detroit Tigers will win the World Series. I've been wrong about everything else this post-season, but I believe the Tigers have the mojo! Oh, and Verlander too! Tigers Roar!

Name: Scott Ian
Band:

Position:
Guitar

Well, since the Yankees played like the Bad News Bears without Kelly Leak, I'm backing Detroit. Cabrera deserves a ring for his Triple Crown season.

I'm going with the Tigers all the way. They have the pitching, and pitching wins World Series.

It's finally Jim Leyland's year. Tigers in five.

Tigers over Giants in six.

I have been watching the Tigers all season, and I must say that they finally look like the team we all expected to see. It is impossible for me to answer this impartially, as I have a dog in the fight, but I can't see the Giants beating the Tigers unless the long layoff has killed their momentum. The Tigers have the best hitter and the best pitching in the playoffs. This could be an exciting season in Detroit!

I'd say Tigers in five. Very happy to see the Tigers in the Series.

Very much looking forward to the Tigers-Giants World Series. If it can't be the Cubs, then those are two fine teams to slug it out.

Name: Steve Wynn
Band:
The Baseball Project
Position:
Vocals, Guitar

Well, if the last few weeks are any indication, the Series will go the distance, and that's just fine with me. The day after the end of the World Series is always such a drag – it brings on those long three-plus months before pitchers and catchers arrive in Florida and Arizona. Nah, let's play seven. All logic would seem to favor the Tigers, but this is no time for logic. I pick the Giants in seven, winning on a shocking, unscheduled start – and complete game shutout – by Tim Lincecum. Again, logic – who needs it?

New Fern Species Named for Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Dave J Hogan/Getty Images for Coty Beauty UK

Botanists at Duke University have named a newly identified genus of fern, and consequently 19 species within the genus, after Lady Gaga, the New York Times reports. The fern, found in Arizona, Texas, Mexico and Central and South America, has "somewhat fluid definitions of gender," as it reproduces by spores that can grow to be male, female or both. A graduate student also found the sequence GAGA in the fern's DNA base pairs. The science behind the ferns inspired the botanists.

Rock & Roll Animals: 22 Weird Creatures Named After Superstars

"We wanted to name this genus for Lady Gaga because of her fervent defense of equality and individual expression," said Kathleen Pryer, director of Duke's herbarium and professor of biology. "And as we started to consider it, the ferns themselves gave us more reasons why it was a good choice."

Among the more eye-popping fern names are Gaga germanotta – a nod to the singer's real name, Stefani Germanotta – and Gaga monstraparva, which translates to "Gaga little monster," an acknowledgement of Gaga's dedicated "little monster" fanbase.

Cloud Atlas co-director Lana Wachowski opened up about her difficult past of growing up transgender in a speech at the Human Rights Campaign's gala fundraiser in San Francisco this weekend, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Wachowski, one half of the sibling duo behind The Matrix trilogy, said that when she was a young adult, she nearly committed suicide on a subway platform before a man nearby stared her down. "I don't know why he wouldn't look away," said Wachowski. "All I know is that because he didn't, I am still here." Wachowski also shared an incident in which she was beaten by a Catholic nun for not joining a line of boys and shared the support she received from her mother and father upon coming out. "Having good parents is just like the lottery," she added.

Wachowski attended the gala to accept the Visibility Award for her recent decision to dispel her previous policy of avoiding press, public appearances and open acknowledgement of her "transition" into becoming a woman. She also noted that she dislikes that word "because of its complicity in a binary gender narrative."

On the Charts: Taylor Swift's 'Red' Set to Blow Up

taylor swift charts Taylor Swift performs on 'Good Morning America' in Times Square in New York.

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Taylor Swift. Her album Red just came out yesterday, and Billboard's retail sources are already predicting 1 million in first-week sales. By today's piracy-plagued standards, that's gigantic – since Swift's previous album Speak Now came out in November 2010, the only other album to hit this mark in a week was Lady Gaga's Born This Way. And she needed a crazy Amazon 99-cent deal to do it. I'll get into more nuts and bolts next week about how Taylor accomplished this, but for now I'll just observe that Taylor has three singles in iTunes' Top Songs this week – the new "State of Grace" (Number Two, with 209,000 overall sales, according to Billboard), "I Knew You Were Trouble" (Number Three, with 156,000 overall) and the ubiquitous "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (Number Eight). Another note: Red hit Number Two on iTunes this week after just one day of sales.

LOSER OF THE WEEK: Those of us who were hoping to put Christmas season off as long as possible. Hey, music business, it's October! Not even Halloween! And yet the first holiday hit is already here – Christmas with Scotty McCreery, by the American Idol winner, which sold 41,000 copies and made its debut at Number Four. Nothing against holiday albums, but isn't that what Black Friday is for? Buying holiday albums?

AND SPEAKING OF COUNTRY MUSIC: Rising country hero Jason Aldean's Night Train sold 409,000 copies, second-biggest debut of the year, behind Mumford and Sons' Babel, and hit Number One this week. That's 60,000 more copies than Justin Bieber's Believe sold in its first week in early September, and it's more than double the amount of Aldean's 2010 album My Kinda Party. (With a few exceptions, notably Adele and Taylor Swift, most stars' sales drop these days from album to album.) Another rare achievement for Aldean: for a few dates on his 2013 tour, he'll headline baseball stadiums.

LAST WEEK: Mumford & Sons Slip, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Impress

'American Horror Story: Asylum' Recap: Judy vs. the Devil

american horror story James Cromwell as Dr. Arden in 'American Horror Story'

Aaaaaand Adam Levine is dead. We don't know that for sure, but boy, he does not look good, what with the meat-hook wounds in his chest. Tonight's Tricks and Treats picks up right where the season premiere left off: with Teresa confronting Bloody Face in the Death Chute. It's too early to predict the nature of Bloody Face, but after tonight's episode, might I suggest we're dealing with a lineage of killers (possibly possessed individuals?), rather than just one weird dude hanging out in Briarcliff forever? Alternately, Bloody Face could be a ghost! Do you think Ryan Murphy will include a ghost element in this season, or is he too burnt out? Not that we really need them. Demons are the new ghost anyway.

But first, betrayal! Back in 1964, Wendy and her friends Barb and, I'm going to say, Khaki Pants commisserate nervously in the wake of Lana's commitment to the asylum. (On a related note, I apologize for writing that Wendy was played by Franka Potente rather than Clea Duvall. I have a terrifying disease where 70 percent of actresses appear to be Franka Potente.) (Also, I'm an idiot.) Wendy decides to recant her claim that Lana is insane, which might not be easy. "You signed a document," Khaki Pants reminds her. A totally fake document obtained through blackmail, but a document nonetheless!

They hear a knock on the door and gasp in terror. Fortunately for Wendy, it's just her students trick-or-treating a day early. Unfortunately for Wendy's students, they just saw their teacher openly weeping in her living room, perhaps the most terrifying sight a child can see. "Check out the mass murders, Barb," Khaki Pants sneers at their fright. Yeah, Barb! You dumb jerk, with your ludicrous fears about serial killers preying on women! Khaki Pants makes an incredibly tone-deaf play for Wendy, who demurs and prepares for bed instead . . . only to be hooked in the hallway by Bloody Face. Jeez, I hope Wendy isn't actually dead. She's the character I most identify with. Who doesn't enjoy sparking up a doob while simultaneously taking a hot shower?

Over at Briarcliff, the maintenance staff follows the grand tradition of asylum lighting and doesn't have a goddamn lightbulb on in the entire place. During room check, Sister Jude and her leering security guard goon discover Lana's painstaking secret notes ("Lies!") stashed in a pillowcase. Hot to erase Lana's memories of all the weird-ass stuff she's already seen, Jude informs Dr. Arden she's changed her mind about electroshock therapy. "I prayed about it," she admits. "When I wasn't praying for you to find a halfway decent haberdasher." Ba-zing! Smack in the goatee with Lange's velvet glove!

For my money, Lana's "treatments" are a genuinely scary turn of events.  Who doesn't shudder at the thought of being imprisoned without recourse, their pleas for mercy unheard, horrible weird rubber things jammed in their screaming mouth? We only catch a glimpse of Lana's post-treatment mental distortion, but even those blurry seconds opens up all sorts of possibilities. If your own mind can be muddled with, then every element of your reality is up for grabs!

Not that everyone agrees with the doctor's practices. Court-ordered psychologist Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto) might only be at Briarcliff to determine if Kit is sane enough to stand trial, but he couldn't help but notice all the canings, beatings and general filthy wetness affecting the Manor's residents. Horrible screams and soiled sheets aside, Kit is an engrossing subject – a murderer who denies killing anyone. "Alma isn't dead," he says of his wife. "That body didn't have a head." Was I the only one who first thought he meant the aliens took his wife's head and were keeping it alive somewhere? I gasped with delight at the suggestion . . . before realizing he just meant the headless body could have belonged to someone else. "After they took her, she was alive," Kit insists. God, wherever Alma is, might that she just be an animate head. Needless to say, it takes Thredson about five minutes to diagnose Kit as totally insane.

Meanwhile, while we already knew that nymphomaniacal Shelly loves to bone ("I have a cucumber in my room. Not because I was hungry," she teases Sister Jude, later declaring, "My mother made me wear mittens to bed"), we soon discover she was institutionalized by her jazz musician husband (what with his cigarettes and his hands!) for sleeping around. Dr. Arden rebuffs Shelly's sexual advances, probably because he was too busy being a grade-A pervert about his crush on Sister Mary Eunice. After taking a lovely stroll in the woods to feed the hell beasts that reside there in secret, he presents Mary Eunice with a beautiful cloisonné jar filled with HORRIBLE BUGS. Just kidding, it's filled with a caramel apple, a caramel apple so obviously drugged, even a woman who would unquestioningly feed forest demons might hesitate before taking a bite.

Back at home, Arden hires a prostitute, cutting up an enormous roast, requiring she dress in a nun's habit and otherwise intimating to the audience that it may have been he who committed the Bloody Face kills. But . . . but my theory! After finding S&M photos, Sister Mary Call Girl is able to escape, hopefully to tell the police about Arden's potential danger to the community. Ha ha, just kidding! This is 1964. They probably would have had Wendy sign her documents too.

How have I gone on so long without discussing the exorcism? Sister Jude and Dr. Thredson reluctantly team up to treat poor Jed, a 35-year-old-looking 17-year-old who has all the symptoms of demon possession: volatility, speaking in tongues, um, tearing out a live cow's heart and eating it in front of his father's horrified eyes. "Good boys gone bad is my area of expertise," Jude smirks, and I die. Thredson is dubious, but the exorcist himself arrives filled with confidence. "A non-believer?" he says. "Good, I like having one in the room. Ups my game." I don't know if people were using the phrase "ups my game" in 1964, but OK. Once the ceremony begins, Sister Jude is forced to leave Thredson, the Monsignor and the exorcist to their work because she's just a woman . . . all the better for the devil to bait her once she returns to pray over Jed.

"It drives you crazy, doesn't it?," the demon-teen hisses as he struggles against his restraints. "To be the smartest person in the room with no real power, because of that smelly clam between your legs?" Heyo! The devil also reveals that Sister Jude was once a brazen harlot who's had "53 cocks in there already," and by "once" I mean "about sixth months ago based on the flashback." We also learn Jude's true secret: she killed a girl while drinking and driving. Jude attacks the boy and Thredson intervenes with actual medical help, but it's too late. Jed dies, the lights flicker and the demon leaps to Sister Mary Eunice, who I look forward to transforming into a brazen hussy and eating bovine organs straight from the source. Maybe now she'll have the confidence to actually find out what the hell is in the woods. Someone tell us!

Meanwhile, you know when you are trapped in an insane asylum but you can't help checking out DAT BOOTY? Lana certainly does, as she ogles Grace's butt as they take some kind of gross, hot therapeutic baths. "You have trouble trusting people," muses Grace, a woman locked up in an insane asylum to Lana, another woman locked in an insane asylum. Lana bitterly tells her about Wendy's document signing before revealing that she knows a way out (Death Chute, y'all!). Grace refuses to escape without Kit, her best friend of one day, but Lana refuses to help an accused woman killer. She . . . knows Grace allegedly chopped up her family, right?

When the demon leaves Jed's body and causes a power failure (sure, OK), Lana, Grace and Kit have a chance to escape the ward. Instead, Grace screams for the security guards to prevent Kit from going free. As a reward for her actions (and because she is evil), Sister Jude lets Lana watch her cane Grace and Kit. Kit heroically takes on Grace's lashes, and I admired Ryan Murphy's restrain in not showing us the cane actually hitting Evan Peters' ass. Actually, I bet they filmed it and FX just thought it was too much. Ah, well. Maybe on the DVD.

Psy Trades Praise With Secretary-General of United Nations

Psy visits UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations in New York City on October 23rd, 2012.

Psy stopped by the United Nations and met with U.N. Secretary-General and fellow South Korean Ban Ki-moon yesterday, The Associated Press reports. The K-pop star gave the U.N. chief a short break from his typically serious duties, trading praise and pulling off some signature "Gangnam Style" dance moves. Ban even joked that he's less famous than Psy, remarking, "I'm a bit jealous."

"Until two days ago someone told me I am the most famous Korean in the world," said Ban. "Now I have to relinquish. I have no regrets." Psy himself was playful but praiseworthy. "So now you have first and second famous Korean in the same building," he said.

"For all the Koreans he is the guy, you know, in everyone's heart in Korea, the best among the best. To be here and he knows me, even the thing that he knows me is so touching right now, and he's saying he saw my video," said Psy. "He counted my video views . . . This is much more better feeling than when I did Number Two on Billboard."

Bobby Brown Arrested on New DUI Charge

Bobby Brown was arrested and charged with drunken driving this morning in Los Angeles, E! reports. It's the singer's second DUI arrest this year, and it comes after a stint in rehab. Brown was reportedly spotted weaving between lanes around 1:43 a.m. local time and pulled over. After smelling alcohol, police officers gave Brown a sobriety test, which the singer failed. Booking records indicate Brown remains in jail on $25,000 bail. No court date has been set.

Brown entered rehab earlier this year as part of a plea deal stemming from a March arrest for drunken driving. Brown was also convicted on a DUI charge in 1996 after getting arrested in Georgia.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live studio couldn't hope to contain Prince, so when the rock great stopped by the show last night, he performed to a large, enthusiastic crowd on the outside stage. Dressed in orange-yellow pants and a wildly patterned shirt with impressive dangling tassels, Prince played his new single "Rock & Roll Love Affair" with absolute joy, sneaking in a few grins as he stomped through the funky, horn-blaring track. He calls it an affair, but almost 35 years after his first album, it might be a little more serious than that.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell: 11 Big Questions That Were MIA at the Presidential Debates

Mitt Romney and Barack Obama participate in the third and final Presidential Debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.

The 2012 presidential debates were a national disgrace.

Forget that two of moderators were doddering old white men who allowed themselves to be steamrolled by Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. (You only have to be 35 to run for president, yet the average age of the moderators was somehow 72.)

The real scandal is that the moderators guided us through three contests without touching on many of the most critical issues confronting the American electorate.

Here, based on a review of the transcripts, the 11 biggest questions that never came up on the debate stage:

CLIMATE
The candidates were never asked about climate change, whether they believe it poses an existential threat to our future, and what, if anything, they'd do halt it.

THE HOUSING CRISIS
The root cause of the financial collapse of 2008 was the housing bubble. The foreclosure crisis remains a drag on our economy. Obama's efforts to aid underwater homeowners have been feckless. Romney declared the market should be allowed to "hit bottom." The moderators thought none of this worthy of discussion.

THE EUROZONE
The European economy is in crisis. The common currency is in danger of collapse. Would the next American president intervene to save the Eurozone? Who knows?! Certainly not debate watchers.

SUPREME COURT
The next president will pick at least one and perhaps two Supreme Court justices — but neither presidential candidate was asked anything about what principles would inform his choices for the court.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE
This election has been waged with ungodly sums of SuperPAC money, leaving both candidates beholden to megadonors. But neither candidate was asked to weigh in on the Citizens United decision that equates money with speech.

GAY MARRIAGE
Gay marriage is on the ballot from Maryland to Washington state. It first became legal in Massachusetts (over Romney's objections) and Obama made history by personally backing marriage equality. The Defense of Marriage Act is headed for a date with the Supreme Court. Yet there was not a single question about whether same sex-couples deserve equal protection.

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL
Obama made an offhanded boast about its repeal, but there was no line of inquiry from the moderators about whether gays and lesbians would continue to be welcome in the Armed Forces under a Romney presidency.

ABORTION
There was no effort to clarify where each candidate stands on Roe v. Wade. (The subject of abortion surfaced briefly in the Vice Presidential debate, but as a personal issue — as a lens for the candidates' Catholic faith.) A low information voter could have watched all three presidential debates and come away thinking there's no meaningful difference on choice, beyond Mitt Romney's plan to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding.

THE FED
Ben Bernanke is the most powerful Federal Reserve chairman in living memory and has more direct influence over the unemployment rate than anyone. Romney has said he'd replace him. Why — and what kind of monetary policy he'd seek — remain open questions.

THE DRUG WAR
Marijuana legalization is on the ballot in three states. Tens of thousands of Mexicans have been killed in drug violence connected to American consumption, for which we continue to incarcerate an insane number of Americans. Yet there was not a single question about the efficacy of the 40-year, $1 trillion War on Drugs.

TAX EVASION
Mitt Romney's tax returns have been a central campaign focus since the GOP primaries. They came up repeatedly in the Republican debates, yet didn't pique the curiosity of the general-election moderators. (Get a detailed look at how Romney avoids paying his fair share.)

Taylor Swift Shares Car Accident Stories With David Letterman

Taylor Swift Shares Car Accident Stories With David LettermanCrashes happened during reporting of Rolling Stone cover story $(document).ready(function() { $('.socialActionsTop .pageActions .email-content').hover( function() { $('.socialActionsTop .bubble.email').show(); }, function() { $('.socialActionsTop .bubble.email').hide(); } ); $('.socialActionsTop .pageActions .print-page').hover( function() { $('.socialActionsTop .bubble.print').show(); }, function() { $('.socialActionsTop .bubble.print').hide(); } ); }); By

Taylor Swift stopped by the Late Show With David Letterman last night to play "Red," but before the pop star took the stage with the title track from her new album, she chatted with the host about getting into a pair of car accidents while spending time with Brian Hiatt for Rolling Stone's latest cover story. Though Swift was nervous, noting Hiatt is "such a good writer," she figured by driving both of them to a restaurant, Hiatt would write about her impressive driving skills. Things didn't work out so well.

"I was trying to use the GPS in my car that I had never used before, but I wanted to use it because he was in the car and I wanted to seem like I knew how to use my GPS," said Swift. While attempting a U-turn, Swift backed up "a tiny bit," only to smack into another car.

"But that was only the first one," said Swift. "There were two accidents that day." A little later, a car blindsided hers, hitting them in the side. This one was more serious. "This time, Brian's not like chill or calmed down. He's like, 'AHHHHHHHH!'" said Swift. But according to Swift, Hiatt thanked her for saving his life with her defensive driving skills. "That didn't end up in the article, but he did say it," she said.

T.I. Embraces Life as 'Trouble Man'

"I've learned that one thing about my life that is certain is trouble," said T.I. with a grin. "Be that as it may, I shall embrace that fact and not evade it. We all have faults. Before I let you stand on your high horse and point a finger back down at me, I'm going to give you a big, stiff 'Fuck you.'"

Following a two-year hiatus, legal wrangling and a slew of underwhelming material, Trouble Man (slated for December 18th release) is that defiant exclamation. The rapper previewed several tracks from the forthcoming release at New York's Germano Studios last night, and though he's still firming up the official track list – Atlantic Records reminded him that he has about one week to submit it – the 12 songs played were said to be strong contenders for the final edit.

The album contains a good balance of vintage trap fare for T.I. purists (circa I'm Serious through King), especially courtesy of longtime collaborator DJ Toomp ("Trap Back Jumping" and "Who Wants Some"), as well as radio-ready cuts for those who like their T.I. high on melody and charm. It's the latter material that, upon first listen, piques the most interest. "Somebody That I Used to Know" is a heartbreaker featuring Kendrick Lamar and B.o.B., with newcomer Kenoe brilliantly sampling Gotye's monster hit of the same name. The sensitive "Guns & Roses," produced by the ubiquitous T-Minus, is sure to be another crowd-pleaser with resplendent, soulful vocals from Pink.

With R. Kelly, Cee Lo, Lil Wayne, Akon and A$AP Rocky all on board, there's no shortage of star wattage on Trouble Man, but it is Andre 3000 who really steals the show. After hounding OutKast's reticent lyricist for some six years, T.I. finally snagged a feature for "Sorry," produced by Jazze Pha. In the song, the two grapple with the ills of fame. Andre's buttery flow comfortably meanders along his verse, to the point where you completely forget what existed before his bars. Dre pokes fun at haters (and even bloggers) with his signature wit and zing.

"He shit on me on my own record," T.I. openly admitted, without a trace of animosity. There's no shame in getting beaten by the best.

Trouble Man is as much for T.I.'s detractors as it is for the man to prove to himself that he hasn't lost his platinum touch. With this album he finally hits that sweet spot, a sonic and thematic balance between past and present. "To expect for me to be one-way every time you see me is to expect me to be a one-dimensional man, which I've never been," he said at the close. "I've always applauded my efforts to be diverse and multi-faceted."

Neil Young Ribs Fans and Bono on Twitter

Neil Young at the annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California.

Neil Young took a break from his ongoing tour with Crazy Horse today to answer fan questions via Twitter. This was hardly a re-do of his famous 1975 Rolling Stone interview with Cameron Crowe, but there were some great moments. Among many mini revelations, Young affirmed that his long out of print 1973 album, Times Fades Away, will be re-released at the same time as his PONO project surfaces. He also said he might record with Dave Grohl, he didn't read his Shakey biography before writing his new memoir, Waging Heavy Peace, and he'll one day release his 1991 live album, Weld, on DVD. The last album he bought? Jimmy Reed's Rockin' With Jimmy Reed. New band he's into these days? Foster the People. When asked why big rock stars like him and Bono are Foster fans, Young joked: "Who's Bono?"

Here are some of Young's best exchanges with fans:

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler on 'What Could Have Been Love' - Track-by-Track Premiere

Aerosmith, 'Music from Another Dimension!' Aerosmith, 'Music from Another Dimension!'

Click to listen to Aerosmith's 'What Could Have Been Love'

RollingStone.com will be premiering Aerosmith's Music From Another Dimension! album, one track at a time, in the weeks leading up to the November 6th release.

"What Could Have Been Love" is the kind of wounded power ballad that dominated Aerosmith's run of hits in the Nineties, much to the irritation of some longtime fans of the band's early, hardest-rocking work. But that side of the group has been part of their repertoire all the way back to the Seventies, at least since "You See Me Crying" on 1975's Toys in the Attic.

The new song, another collaboration with frequent co-writer Marti Frederiksen, opens with a shimmering guitar melody and Steven Tyler singing, "I wake up and wonder/ how everything went wrong/ Am I the one to blame?" It's accompanied by the second video released from Music From Another Dimension!, which shows Tyler in a bar wailing miserably about a failed relationship while the rest of the band happily shoots pool, as the song builds to a teary crescendo.

"Marti and I had both been through divorce: Do you ever have feelings about that? Do you ever think about that?" says Tyler. "It started from there: 'What could have been love, it should have been the only thing that was ever meant to be, couldn't see what was right in front of me.' So many people are getting divorced now. When you've got kids, you still love the mother a little bit. Anyone worth their soul will admit it."

100 Greatest Artists of All Time: Aerosmith

Also getting a co-writing credit on the song is the band's keyboard player, Russ Irwin, who had a Top 40 hit as a solo artist in 1991 with the whispery romantic ballad "My Heart Belongs to You." Both Irwin and Frederiksen sing backup vocals on "What Could Have Been Love."

"It just reared its beautiful little head a couple of years ago," Tyler says of the composition. "It's a magical tune."

Album producer Jack Douglas gets a co-producer credit, but the song falls squarely in the soaring pop comfort zone of Frederickson, who produced the track with Tyler. "Jack is the overlord," says bassist Tom Hamilton of the album sessions. "He really brought this thing into the home port. But Marti had a big influence, just setting a good example creatively."

Be sure to check out Rolling Stone's exclusive peek inside the band's 50th reunion, which guitarist Keith Richards says won't be limited to just these shows: "My experience with the Rolling Stones is that once the juggernaut starts rolling, it ain't gonna stop. So without sort of saying definitely yes – yeah. We ain't doing all this for four gigs!"
