Can Readies Box Set of Unreleased Songs

Krautrock legends Can will release The Lost Tapes, a 3-CD box set featuring unreleased studio and live material, on June 19th. The collection was curated by the band's keyboard player Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, along with Jono Podmore.

The set is compiled from over 30 hours of music which was stored in the group's archives and rediscovered after the group's studio was sold to the German Rock 'n' Pop Museum. "Obviously the tapes weren't really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them," said Schmidt in a statement.

The material featured on The Lost Tapes includes compositions shelved over album-length issues and songs recorded for soundtracks of films that were never completed. The tracks were recorded between 1968 and 1977, featuring the core quartet along with vocal contributions from Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki on some tracks. You can hear "Millionenspiel," a groovy cut from the set, below.
